Snow blamed for more than 50 accidents in Kittitas County
ELLENSBURG - Snow has been blamed for dozens of accidents in the Kittitas Valley of central Washington.
State Patrol and transportation officials said many of the crackups were on a 35-mile stretch of Interstate 90 from the Ryegrass rest area, about 20 miles east of Ellensburg, to elk heights, about 15 miles west of Ellensburg.
The snow also slowed down motorists and caused spinouts and crashes on Interstate 82 southeast of Ellensburg.
Few significant injuries were reported.
Most areas in the Kittitas Valley are expected to get three to five inches of snow with as much as ten inches in the west by late this morning.
The snow is expected to melt this afternoon as temperatures rise into the upper 30s and low 40s.
Light overnight snow also was followed by a rash of accidents Monday morning in Spokane. State troopers told KHQ Television at least six collisions had occurred by about daybreak, including a number along I-90 west of town.
