Vikings lose McCarrell

Western Washington guard/forward Liz McCarrell will miss the 2007-08 women’s basketball season after suffering a dislocation and torn ligament in her right foot that will require surgery.

McCarrell, a senior from Ferndale, averaged a team-best 10.9 points and 3.8 rebounds last year in earning second-team Great Northwest Athletic Conference honors.

“We’re going to miss her in so many ways, especially her leadership,” said Western coach Carmen Dolfo.

McCarrell suffered the injury in a collision during practice two weeks ago. Originally, it was thought that she might be able to return by mid-November.
